After having kids I was very unhappy with my self. I had gained over 30kg during my pregnancies and when I caught a glimpse of myself in a window or a mirror the person I saw was someone I didn’t recognise. I had never been so over weight in my life and I was terrified that I was going to stay that way.
By the time my daughter was 10 months old I decided I was going to do something about it. I had seen a group of Mums exercising with their kids at a bootcamp and asked my husband if i could find something similar to me. This is when I found Yummy Mummy Fitness and the classes were held in the hall across the road from me. It was fate!
The program was fantastic and taught me so much about how to eat to lose weight by counting calories using My Fitness Pal. To eat plenty of carbs for energy. To mix strength training and cardio training and workout consistency 6 days a week. The cardio part was running something I had never done before, i never even imagined that I could do such a thing. Running was such a foreign concept for me. But it turns out, i loved it! It was such a buzz to be doing more and more and getting better. When I ran an entire minute in a row I was ecstatic. When I came to the end of the 3 month program and I could run 30 minutes, it literally blew my mind!
And from there I was hooked. It took me a year to lose 26kg and to gain a life I had not even imagined was possible. At the completion of my transformation I ran a half marathon and it was a real highlight and accomplishment in my life to be able to say I have done that.
My husband got a new job opportunity in Invercargill and we moved from Auckland to be there. I loved Yummy Mummy Fitness (YMF) so much and I had developed a great friendship with the YMF director Simone that I asked her if I could study to be a trainer and be a YMF trainer in Invercargill. There were already trainers in Christchurch and Dunedin by this time and she said ‘yes!’.
This led me to studying a Diploma in Sport and Exercise at SIT in Invercargill and growing a great business with Simone in Invercargill. It was very sad when after a year my husband got a new job opportunity in Invercargill and we moved to Queenstown. By this time YMF had moved on and was moving into more online fitness. This however was a great opportunity for me because I took on the Virtual Classes and was able to work on my other love which is Food and create the Meal guides.
Over the past 5 years I have participated in plenty of events from Mud runs to off trail half marathons and even a Spring Challenge Adventure Race. Having done these things made me realise how much you can accomplish if you just work on it and train and build over time. It can take a long time but consistency will win.
